Notable Issues for Instructors

Page last updated: 6/3/2026

This page is focused on issues impacting instructors. For a list of notable issues that impact students, please see UNM Canvas Notable Issues for Students.

This page identifies ongoing defects within UNM Canvas and its integrations that affect core functionality, less critical issues that users might assume is working correctly, and issues that affect the majority of users. Most issues on this page are classified as “bugs” and are reported to the vendor for resolution.

This list is not exhaustive and encompasses issues that have not yet been reported or are anticipated but are currently under active monitoring. For a full list of all known Canvas issues, please visit Instructure’s Known Issues page. To check for Canvas or integration system outages, please visit the System Status & Alerts page.

Tip: Some issues (including some not listed on this page) only appear in specific browsers. If you are having difficulties doing something with one web browser, you can try a different browser to see if it will work there.

For a list of notable issues that are now resolved, see the Resolved Issues section.

New Quizzes/Integrations - Kaltura

Accessing the Build page of New Quizzes breaks external tool embeds for your session. The most noticeable symptom is Kaltura being stuck on the "Retrieving Content" page. This is caused by a New Quizzes feature option that was recently enabled.

Disable the New Quizzes Canvas Native Integration feature and retry:

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Open the course where the New Quiz lives.
  3. In the course navigation, click Settings.
  4. Disable New Quizzes Canvas Native Integration.
  5. Open the New Quiz and click Build.
  6. Retry embedding Kaltura content.

Integrations - Zoom

Users launching a Zoom meeting from within Canvas using the Firefox browser are receiving an "Unauthorized" error message.

Please try one of the three options:

  • Try a different browser.
  • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies.
  • If you're using Firefox:
    1. Click the shield icon in the upper-left corner of the address bar.
    2. Check the Enhanced Tracking Protection setting.
      • If it’s enabled, disable it for the site.
      • You may need to refresh the page for the changes to take effect.

Discussions - Threaded Replies

Disallow Threaded Replies option in Discussions.

Students are unable to reply to discussion posts due to the Disallow Threaded Replies option being selected due to a change Instructure made to some discussions in August.

Instructors can navigate to the Discussion settings and check if the Disallow Threaded Replies option is selected. If it is enabled and they do want the students to reply to posts, they should uncheck the box.

As of July 19, 2025, Instructure has implemented a Manage Discussions banner to allow instructors to enable and disable threaded replies in bulk. The banner will only display if the course contains one legacy type discussion. This replaces the temporary button from September 2024.
