Notable Issues for Instructors

Page last updated: 11/27/2024

This page is focused on issues impacting instructors. For a list of notable issues that impact students, please see UNM Canvas Notable Issues for Students.

This page identifies ongoing defects within UNM Canvas and its integrations that affect core functionality, less critical issues that users might assume is working correctly, and issues that affect the majority of users. Most issues on this page are classified as “bugs” and are reported to the vendor for resolution.

This list is not exhaustive and encompasses issues that have not yet been reported or are anticipated but are currently under active monitoring. For a full list of all known Canvas issues, please visit Instructure’s Known Issues page. To check for Canvas or integration system outages, please visit the System Status & Alerts page.

Tip: Some issues (including some not listed on this page) only appear in specific browsers. If you are having difficulties doing something with one web browser, you can try a different browser to see if it will work there.

For a list of notable issues that are now resolved, see the Resolved Issues section.

Discussions - Threaded Replies

Disallow Threaded Replies option in Discussions.

Students are unable to reply to discussion posts due to the Disallow Threaded Replies option being selected due to a change Instructure made to some discussions in August.

Instructors can navigate to the Discussion settings and check if the Disallow Threaded Replies option is selected. If it is enabled and they do want the students to reply to posts, they should uncheck the box.

As of September 16, 2024, Instructure has issued a temporary button on the Discussions page in affected courses that will allow instructors to make all discussions in the course threaded if desired (instead of fixing the discussions one-by-one). This button will be available until at least the end of summer 2025.
