Video Submissions
Some instructors may require you to post a video in a discussion or submit one as an assignment. You can use the Kaltura media tools integrated with UNM Canvas to record, upload, and embed your videos.
Not all courses require video content. Check your syllabus and assignment instructions, and ask your instructor if you have questions.
Access My Media
My Media is your personal, cloud-based library for media files. Find it under Account in Canvas.
Uploading a video to My Media does not submit your assignment or post it to a discussion. You must also add the video to the required activity and complete the submission or posting process.
Upload Media Files
To upload a video you have already created, open My Media > Add New > Media Upload. You can upload a video saved on your computer, including one created using your phone or PowerPoint.
Desktop Recording with Kaltura Capture
Kaltura Capture is a desktop recording app that lets you record your webcam, screen, microphone, or a combination of these. After recording, follow the upload steps to add the recording to My Media so you can use it in a discussion or assignment.

Add Your Video to a Discussion or Assignment
Follow your instructor's directions to open the assignment or discussion. When using the Rich Content Editor, select Embed Kaltura Media to add your video.
- Select the video you want to use and embed it in your assignment submission or discussion reply.
- Add any text required by your instructor.
- Finish by submitting the assignment or posting your discussion reply. For a video assignment, click Submit Assignment.
- Confirm that the assignment shows as submitted or that your discussion reply appears.

Pro Tip: Allow Time to Upload and Check Your Video
Leave enough time to record, upload, process, and submit your video before the deadline. An uploaded video may need additional processing time before it is ready to play.
After submitting or posting, return to the activity and play the video. Check that it is the correct video and that both the picture and sound work.
If your video does not play or you cannot complete the submission, contact your instructor and UNM Canvas Support promptly.
