Taking your Quiz

Check to make sure you have the latest version of the Chromebook extension. Using older versions of the Respondus LDB + Monitor Chrome extension could potentially cause issues. It is recommended that the latest version is installed before starting a Quiz.

  1. Log into Canvas, navigate to your quiz, and attempt to start it.
  2. If the extension was installed correctly, you will immediately be locked into your browser upon starting your exam.
  3. If your test also requires a Webcam/Respondus Monitor, you will be presented with a series of pre-checks. Be sure you are in a well-lit, clear, and quiet area. It may be best to make sure others are not using your bandwidth while taking your test. Depending on the Startup Sequence chosen by your instructor, you may be prompted to take a photo, record your environment, and/ or present a valid ID.
  4. Once you finish the Startup Sequence, you can begin the test.
  5. Once you are finished and have submitted your test, close the Respondus LockDown Browser.

If you are prompted to install the extension or cannot begin the exam, please see our Known Issues section below.

Known Issues – New Quizzes:

  • “Google Chrome OS can’t open this page” (New Quizzes)
This error will occur every time a student tries to start a Respondus LockDown Browser enabled New Quiz. To proceed, the error needs to be closed out, and the “get latest version” hyper link must be clicked before the exam can be begin.

Known Issues – Classic Quizzes:

  • Pop-up Issues in the Rich Content Editor for Classic Quizzes Pop-ups from the RCE do not properly appear for an Essay question that is halfway down the page on Classic Quizzes. Tests that display one question at a time are not impacted by this. Clicking on the equation editor, for example, will cause the window for it to appear at the very top of the page where it is unviewable. You are unable to scroll up to interact with the window until you click on a random section of the page to close it out. Options that are affected by this issue are any tool that appears as a pop-up:
  • Clicking on an embedded file in a question description will open it in a new tab. You can access it, but you can ‘lock’ your session in the new tab. At this point you will see the Canvas Course and Global Navigation options on the left. It is highly recommended to avoid interacting with these options or risk locking your session. If you are unable to tab back to your exam, try pressing the ALT key on your keyboard. Exit out of the prompt that appears and try to tab back to your exam. If you are still unable to, close out of the session and attempt to resume the Quiz again.
  • Quick navigation for questions on the top right of the page for Classic Quizzes cannot be used. (Clicking on a question later in the page will not do anything)
  • You are logged out of Canvas after submitting your exam.
