Note: Beginning with Fall 2026 courses, VitalSource replaces RedShelf as the system used by the UNM Bookstore to manage the Course Materials Access program. During the transition, two links will appear in the Canvas Account menu: My Shelf (Summer 2026) for Summer 2026 courses and My Shelf (Fall 2026) for Fall 2026 courses. We strongly recommend that instructors also add the appropriate My Shelf link to the course navigation menu. This makes the tool easier to find and allows students to access it through the Canvas Student mobile app.

What is VitalSource?

VitalSource is the service used by the UNM Bookstore to manage the  Course Materials Access program beginning with Fall 2026. In UNM Canvas, students and instructors access VitalSource through the My Shelf (Fall 2026) link. There are 3 options, Complete, Select and Opt-Out.

Complete

Main Campus undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in the Complete plan during Fall and Spring semesters. The Complete plan is not offered during Summer terms. In this plan, students can access all their required course materials for a flat rate.

Select

Students can opt to purchase only specific digital or print course materials for their registered courses.

Opt-Out

Students can opt-out entirely of UNM Course Materials Access and purchase their course materials on their own. For more information about the program, please visit Course Materials Access.
